PM: Chong Eu is a true national patriot

GEORGE TOWN: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has paid his last respects to the late Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu, describing the political icon as a true national patriot who had played a significant role in nation building.
“He played a big part in our nation building and in the development of Penang.
“My family will always remember him as a very close friend of my late father (Tun Abdul Razak Hussein). It was this special relationship that had led to the formation of Barisan Nasional. The nation will forever remember his enormous contribution,” the Prime Minister wrote in a condolence book after paying his last respects to the former Penang chief minister at Dewan Sri Pinang here Sunday.
Najib arrived at 10.15am with several cabinet ministers.
Dr Lim, 91, passed away on Wednesday evening at his Tanjung Bungah home. He had been warded at Penang Hospital following a stroke about a month ago.
His cortege is scheduled to leave Dewan Sri Pinang at noon Sunday for the Batu Gantong crematorium.
